The Graduate
Nathan has spent the last month in his first "big kid" swim lessons. It's been pretty painful, the first week was spent just watching from afar, with Mommy grinding her teeth in frustration. The second week, after many threats, he decided to actually get IN the water. Today, as I watched his final lesson of this session, I thought to myself, "How do they tell parents that their child has failed level 1? Do they break it to you gently? Do they just hand you a paper that has a smiley face and a recommendation to repeat?". Nathan was doing really well, but in comparison to the other kids in his class it was questionable if he should move on. Some of these kids looked like they've done this before or at least do more than play on the steps at home. He finished up the lesson and we moved over to the picnic area for his "party". He received a bag of skittles and a certificate showing that he had fulfilled ALL of the requirements for Level 1!! I'm so proud of him. Maybe he'll actually be moving in the water by himself this summer :)
